Mission 2016

2016 is MISSION YEAR in St Philip Evans!

This Autumn, a dedicated team from the Sion Community will be leading our parish Mission, a major once-in-a-generation event in the life of our parish. From Saturday 22 October 2016, a Parish Visiting Team will spend a week knocking on the doors of as many known Catholics as possible, to invite them to come to the mission events.

From Saturday 29 October to Sunday 6 November, the Sion Event Team will run a Mission Event each day, encouraging us to look more deeply at our faith. If you are booking annual leave or shift patterns, please try to keep those weekends and evenings clear!

Why are we having a Mission? Read Pastor Gareth's Vision!

Pastor Gareth, Vince Saunders, Cathy Mac and Evelyn Aneni went to the Sion Mission Training overnight on 20/21 January. Cathy and Vince have become our overall co-ordinators - we decided to opt for two rather than one to share the load.

We'll be having planning meetings on the 4th Thursday of each month at 7.45 pm in the Small Hall (except Maundy Thursday). Our first priority is setting up a Prayer Team / Prayer Teams and talking through the theme for our Mission. We won't be doing all the Mission Planning at these meetings. The idea is to have a co-ordinator for each aspect: transport, visiting, prayer, hospitality, etc etc. Each individual co-ordinator will liaise with the volunteers for that task, and hopefully the monthly meetings will be a chance to catch up on what's happening in each area and discuss how they interact with other aspects.

To date, we have co-ordinators for:
Prayer Teams: Nash and Riza de los Santos
Ecumenical: Ann Iles
Youth: Bejay (or another member of Jesus Youth)
Accommodation: Dave John
Transport: Cynthia Ogbonna
Hospitality: Thresiamma Sebastian and Alphonsa Mathew
Artwork: Valentino Cellupica

Prayer is the foundation for mission, so the first updates will concentrate on that. We have been asked to pray for St Joseph’s Parish in Leyton, whose parish mission is at the beginning of October, so we will include this in our weekly bidding prayers. Meanwhile, St Edward's Parish in Windsor, having a mission earlier this year, will be praying for us.
